Tobacco Use Policy

SUBJECT: Tobacco Use Policy - PREAMBLE: Company X is committed to providing a wide range of effective health programs including Tobacco Use Prevention initiatives. Tobacco has a negative health impact on staff. This policy outlines limitations on the use of tobacco products.
- EXPECTATIONS REGARDING THE USE OF TOBACCO: As a condition of employment, employees of the Company X, students, volunteers and others working on Company X premises are expected to comply with the following: 2.1 Not to use tobacco products on Company X premises, including buildings, parking lots and adjacent Company X property. 2.2 Not to use tobacco products in the presence of clients or the community while carrying out Company X duties. 2.3 To govern conversations with clients and the community while carrying out Company X duties such that support for the Tobacco Use Policy is not undermined. All Company X sponsored events and functions such as workshops, Staff days, the Christmas Dance, etc., will be tobacco free. Tobacco products are defined as any processed or unprocessed form of tobacco that may be smoked, inhaled or chewed including snuff, but does not apply to products intended for use in nicotine replacement therapy.
- VIOLATION OF POLICY: Violations of this policy will be dealt with in accordance with the Guidelines for Administration of Discipline as outlined in the discipline policy. It is the responsibility of management representatives to monitor compliance with this policy among all employees and to document clearly all steps taken in the application of the policy.
- EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE All employees and spouses who use tobacco products will be given one time funding to access a smoking cessation program of their choice. A spouse includes a common law spouse or partner of the same sex.
